Veterans Initiative

A developing Green to Read concept focused on veterans and military-connected adults.

CURRENT STATUS: EARLY DEVELOPMENT

The Green to Read Veterans Initiative is an emerging Wordsmyth concept intended to explore how respectful, adult-centered literacy support might strengthen participation in education, credentialing, workforce training, employment, and everyday life for veterans with persistent reading or written-language difficulties.

The initiative is not currently an operational program, clinical service, benefits program, funded pilot, or available intervention. Wordsmyth is not enrolling participants or representing that the concept has been validated.

WHY EXPLORE THIS NEED?

Adults may reach military service and civilian life with unidentified or incompletely addressed dyslexia and other literacy difficulties. Reading and written-language demands can become especially visible during transition, college, technical certification, licensing, professional development, or changes in employment.

The concept begins with a simple premise: veterans deserve literacy support that respects their intelligence, experience, service, privacy, goals, and adult identity.

PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES

The initiative may explore:

• Adult-appropriate literacy screening and educational referral pathways

• Structured-literacy instruction adapted for adult goals and materials

• Support connected to college, credentialing, technical training, and workforce participation

• Clear progress measures meaningful to adult learners

• Accessibility and assistive-technology considerations

• Coordination with qualified education, workforce, disability-support, and veteran-serving professionals

• Confidential, strength-based communication that avoids stigma

• Scalable delivery models for geographically dispersed communities

RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT

Before any future implementation, Wordsmyth would need to define the service model, target population, eligibility and referral boundaries, instructional materials, facilitator qualifications, privacy protections, outcome measures, partner responsibilities, funding structure, and an appropriate research or pilot plan.

No claim of effectiveness, clinical benefit, government approval, veteran-benefit eligibility, or readiness for implementation is being made. The initiative is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, or any military service.

WHY WORDSMYTH?

Wordsmyth Literacy, LLC is an SBA-certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business led by TJ Feth, a U.S. Air Force veteran, licensed educator, Certified Academic Language Practitioner, and mathematics educator with more than 30 graduate hours in special education. This combination informs both the mission and the commitment to responsible program design.

POTENTIAL PARTNERSHIP CONVERSATIONS

Wordsmyth welcomes exploratory discussions with veteran-serving organizations, colleges and training providers, workforce-development programs, adult-education specialists, researchers, accessibility professionals, government agencies, foundations, and prime contractors. A conversation does not represent program enrollment, endorsement, selection, funding, or a commitment to participate in future research.
