Wordsmyth provides individualized educational evaluations for students and young adults when dyslexia or a related reading difficulty is suspected. The evaluation examines the underlying language and reading skills associated with dyslexia and identifies patterns of strengths and needs to guide educational planning.

ASSESSMENT BATTERY

Testing is selected according to the learner’s age, history, and referral questions and may include:

• WIAT-4 — academic achievement in areas such as word reading, decoding, reading comprehension, spelling, and written language

• CTOPP-2 — phonological awareness, phonological memory, and rapid naming

• TOWRE-2 — efficiency and automaticity of sight-word and phonemic decoding

• GORT-5 — oral-reading rate, accuracy, fluency, comprehension, and reading-error analysis

WHAT THE PROCESS INCLUDES

• Parent or caregiver intake and review of educational history

• Review of relevant school records, prior testing, intervention data, and work samples

• Individual administration of appropriate standardized assessments

• Integrated interpretation of scores, observations, and the learner’s reading profile

• A written report explaining findings in family-friendly language

• A results conference with TJ

• Individualized instructional and intervention recommendations

AFTER THE EVALUATION

Families receive guidance for discussing the findings with the learner’s school, including possible next steps for an IEP evaluation, Section 504 consideration, accommodations, or additional school-based assessment. When appropriate, TJ can also explain structured-literacy therapy options and recommended areas of intervention.

IMPORTANT SCOPE INFORMATION

This service provides an educational evaluation and educational diagnosis of dyslexia based on the learner’s history, standardized academic and reading-related measures, and observed pattern of performance. It is not a medical, psychological, or neuropsychological evaluation and does not diagnose ADHD, autism, intellectual disability, anxiety, or other medical or mental-health conditions.

A Wordsmyth report may help families communicate with schools and request consideration of additional evaluation or supports. However, each school or public agency independently determines eligibility, services, accommodations, and placement under its applicable procedures. An outside evaluation does not guarantee an IEP or Section 504 plan.

IS AN EVALUATION APPROPRIATE?

An evaluation may be helpful when a learner has persistent difficulty with accurate or fluent word reading, decoding unfamiliar words, spelling, reading rate, written expression, or making expected progress despite appropriate instruction and intervention.
