Dyslexia Professional Development & Simulation Workshops

Dyslexia Awareness to Classroom Action™ brings interactive professional development to schools and community organizations in Monument, Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, and the Denver metro area.

Led by TJ Feth, M.A., CALT, workshops help educators recognize signs of dyslexia, understand structured-literacy principles, and plan practical classroom supports.

Who the training serves

Classroom teachers, special educators, interventionists, literacy teams, administrators, paraprofessionals, parents, and other professionals who support developing readers.

What participants will learn

• What dyslexia is—and what it is not.

• Common indicators across grade levels.

• How reading and spelling difficulties can affect confidence and classroom participation.

• The roles of phonological awareness, decoding, fluency, and language comprehension.

• How structured literacy supports students with dyslexia.

• Practical instructional supports, accommodations, and school-family communication.

Interactive learning, followed by practical action

In-person workshops may include the Experience Dyslexia™ hands-on simulation, discussion, guided application, and family or educator Q&A. The simulation uses six learning stations to build awareness and empathy for language-based learning challenges; it does not reproduce the experience of having dyslexia.

Wordsmyth uses the official simulation materials as one component of broader professional learning, alongside original instruction and classroom application planning. Ordinary classroom supports complement, rather than replace, specialized reading intervention.

Delivery options

In person: dyslexia-awareness simulation workshops, educator professional development, and family or community events. Session length and activities are agreed during planning.

Virtual: creating a dyslexia-friendly classroom and implementation follow-up. The simulation is offered in person.

About the facilitator

TJ Feth is a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), licensed Colorado educator, and U.S. Air Force veteran. He holds an M.A. in Math Education and more than 30 graduate hours in special education. His work connects structured literacy, intervention planning, progress monitoring, and classroom practice.
